See, I started podficcing in March 2013 - mainly because my favorite show got so bad and effed up that I couldn't continue vidding for it.
I just couldn't bring it upon myself to watch those eps over and over again to find good clips. Podficcing sounded way cooler... having the whole world of fanfic to play with!! :)
And so this is the result of my first nine months as a podficcer...
Stats: Podfic - 14 stories, ~2 1/2 hours overall, in 4 fandoms (Once Upon a Time, Warehouse 13, The Devil Wears Prada and Harry Potter), 2 vids (Once Upon a Time related)
Most popular?
By hits: Comfort; by downloads: Let down your hair, by comments & kudos: Hoyotoho!
Most underappreciated?
By downloads: Signature, a short Bering & Wells podfic I did for the IDF. And Settings and Second Takes, which is such a beautiful, haunting story written by fictorium - I wish more people would listen to it. Or read it. Whatever. ;) By hits: clearly Hoyotoho!
Personal favorite, for whatever reason?
Hoyotoho!, hands down. Older lesbians in love & opera music, a match made in heaven! I was singing and grinning throughout the whole editing process. Also I think I got the incorporated music and sound effects to work for the story. *proud*
Most difficult to make?
184 Words, by far! The story by Ayoshen - a new take on Regina's torture scene in the 2x21 episode of OUAT - is no easy read with its unusual narrative and recording it over three days brought me to my limits. I'm still happy I did it though, because I learned a lot about the editing process and how to work with effects with this podfic.
Most “ah ha ha I can’t believe I’m doing this”?
Are You There God? It's Me, Mary Margaret is such a cracky "Everybody in Storybrook is gay" fic and I don't like crackfics. Like, at all. But after reading the story something possessed me to ask for permission and get out the mic... I'm absolutely happy with the outcome though.
Most fun to make?
Again, Hoyotoho!, because the recording and editing were so easy (well, except for those english phrases I just couldn't wrap my tongue around) and I had so much fun, plus the story gives you all the cues for the music to incorporate.
And Are You There God..., because I ususally hate Mary Margaret with a burning passion and torturing her a little bit in this podfic was a delight. Plus I liked editing the music bits.
Was there one that didn’t turn out the way you wanted?
One? There are all but two podfics I would like to go back to work some more on it. ;) I wish I'd be better in doing character voices and accents - alas, as non-native speaker this will never happen - so I'd say An Unusual Proposal. HG Wells is so hard! And there was something off with my pacing.
Biggest learning experience?
184 Words was the first podfic I used various special effects with. I worked with like eight simultaneous tracks on that one at one point. It was a bit overwhelming and frustrating at times, but I learned a lot.
What’s next?
Trying to get healthy again, I have voice trouble for several months now. ;P
I'm currently editing three short podficlets in different fandoms (Devil Wears Prada, OUaT and Rizzoli & Isles).
Next up for recording is a short DWP story by Telanu and two longer Swan Queen stories.
Two WIP I'm working on for quite a while now are a 93+k words Janeway/Seven story by BaileyB and a "Swan Queen Musical" (a ~2hour podfic/fanmix/dialogue remix thingie).
And there's one more OUAT vid I'd like to do....
